In short
- At level 1 to 10 the auction house pays for what higher characters cannot be bothered to farm: low cloth, low herbs and ore, and the odd starter-zone drop.
- Take two gathering professions the moment you reach a trainer; the reagent cost is zero and the first stacks sell within the day.
- Do not buy gear or bags at these levels; every copper spent here is a copper not spent on a mount later.
- Move on once your bags fill faster than you can list them, which is usually by level 10.
This week on Normal HordeSquashed Rabbit Carcass up 900%, Red Fireworks Rocket down 90% against the 7 day median. This week's report has every market; the market page has the full leaderboards.
What you can reach
A new character has a starter zone, two bag slots that are probably empty, and no professions. Within the first hour you reach a settlement with trainers, and that is the moment this band turns from questing into earning. Take two gathering professions, any two: herbalism, mining or skinning. They cost almost nothing to learn, they need no reagents, and the lowest tier of every material is what every crafter on the market needs first.
Everything you can reach here is low tier by definition, and that is the point. Players at 60 will not go back to farm it, so the supply comes from characters exactly like yours, and it sells to characters levelling a profession from one.
What to sell
- The first tier of materials. Cloth from every humanoid, the first herbs, the first ore, the first leather. Stack them to full and list the stack.
- Uncommon drops you cannot use. A green weapon for another class is worth more on the house than at a vendor, but only just; if it does not sell in a day, vendor it and move on.
- Nothing crafted. At this level the reagents are worth more than what they make.
The drops block on this page shows which items at your level players have actually seen drop, where, and what each fetched on the market at the latest scan. It is the honest answer to "is this worth picking up".
What to skip
Do not buy anything. Not gear, not bags, not a profession you cannot use yet. Every silver spent here is a silver not spent on the mount at 40, which is the first purchase that changes how fast you earn. Skip the vendor for anything that stacks; the house pays more for every material and for most greens.
Prices on this page are the median at the latest scan of the market shown. A stack listed at the median sells; a stack listed under the cheapest listing starts a race you cannot win.
When to move on
When your bags fill faster than you can list them, usually by level 10, you have outgrown this band. The next one is where a gatherer starts to outearn a quester, and where the first recipes are worth learning. Read level 10 to 20 before you buy your first bag.

Common questions
- How do you make gold at level 1 to 10 in WoW Forever?
- At level 1 to 10 the auction house pays for what higher characters cannot be bothered to farm: low cloth, low herbs and ore, and the odd starter-zone drop. Take two gathering professions the moment you reach a trainer; the reagent cost is zero and the first stacks sell within the day. - Which recipes pay at level 1 to 10?
- The ones a character in this band can learn, skill 1 to 50, ranked above by what they earn at the current medians on Normal Horde: result price less the auction house cut, less every reagent at its median. A recipe with an unpriced reagent is not ranked, so a margin is never overstated.
- What should a level 1 to 10 character sell?
- The materials and drops of the zones for this level, priced above from the latest scan: what the market pays per unit and per stack, and which market pays most. Consumed goods sell again next week; a piece of gear sells once, so the list favours what gets used up.
- Which market do these prices come from?
- Normal Horde, the market with prices for this guide right now; switch the market at the top of the page to see another. Every number comes from players scanning that house with the addon.
- How often does this guide update?
- The written parts hold across beta builds. The priced blocks refresh every ten minutes from the latest scans and the weekly report, so the recipe that pays and the material worth farming can change from one visit to the next.
