World of Warcraft: Forever Normal ruleset

Normal is the ruleset without forced world PvP. In contested zones you are flagged only if you choose to be, so the open world is a place you level, gather and travel through rather than one you survive.

It is where most of the population goes, and in a game with no realms that matters more than it ever did: the whole Normal population of a faction trades on one auction house, which makes it the deepest market in the game.

What Normal does to the auction house

  • Depth. A single seller almost never moves a price, so undercutting wars are shallow and patience is worth more than speed.
  • Gathering is cheap in risk, so raw materials are plentiful and their margins thin. Value sits further up the chain, in what is crafted from them.
  • Consumables that matter in dungeons and raids sell steadily rather than in spikes, because nobody is buying them to win a fight on the road.

Questions

Is Normal the same as PvE?
Yes. Normal is what earlier versions of the game called a PvE realm: world PvP happens only between players who have flagged for it. Battlegrounds and duels work the same on every ruleset.
Can a Normal character trade with a PvP character?
No. Each ruleset and faction has its own auction house, so a Normal Alliance character and a PvP Alliance character never see the same listings. Prices on the two are measured separately on this site.
