Free Action Potion in WoW Forever: recipe, price and PvP
Thirty seconds of stun immunity from Alchemy 135. Where the vendor recipe is, what it costs to make, why PvP markets pay far more, and the bound version.

In short
- The Free Action Potion is a Classic Era potion kept in Forever: level 20, thirty seconds of immunity to stuns and movement impairing effects, drunk before the fight rather than during it.
- Alchemists make it at skill 135 from a Leaded Vial, a Stranglekelp and two Blackmouth Oil; the recipe is a vendor item sold by Ulthir in Darnassus and Kor'geld in Orgrimmar for 16 to 18 silver.
- In the October 2026 beta the Normal markets priced it at 8 to 12 silver and the PvP markets at 96 silver to over a gold, the widest ruleset gap on any consumable, because stun immunity is a PvP tool.
- Forever also added a bind on pickup Free Action Potion with no level requirement; it never reaches the auction house and its source is not yet recorded.

What the Free Action Potion is
The Free Action Potion is a common quality potion carried over from Classic Era into World of Warcraft: Forever. It is item level 30, it asks for character level 20, and it stacks to five. Drinking one makes you immune to stuns and movement impairing effects for thirty seconds. It does not remove anything already on you, so it has to go down before the stun lands, not after. That one sentence of tooltip text is the whole reason the potion exists, and the whole reason its price behaves the way it does.
Thirty seconds of stun immunity is a PvP consumable. Nobody drinks one to kill a boar faster. It goes down when another player's stun is coming, when a flag needs carrying across an open field, or when a root is the only thing between you and a graveyard. The potion has no stats, no damage and no healing, and it still sells for more than most level 30 gear on the markets where people fight each other. The price table further down shows that gap in the current scans.
Forever also added a second item with the same name. The client lists a new Free Action Potion, flagged as new in Forever, that binds when picked up, stacks to twenty and has no level requirement at all. It carries the same Free Action effect by name. Because it binds, it never reaches an auctioneer, which is why this guide treats the two separately: the Classic potion is the one you can buy and sell, and the Forever one is the one you cannot. More on the new version below.
Where Free Action Potions come from
Every tradable Free Action Potion is made by an alchemist. The recipe sits at Alchemy skill 135, each potion takes one Leaded Vial, one Stranglekelp and two Blackmouth Oil, and the recipe stays orange until skill 175 before fading to grey at 215. That is a long orange window, which matters to anyone leveling the profession: a Free Action Potion is a skill point and a sellable item at the same time for forty points of Alchemy.
- Free Action Potion · Alchemy 1352 × Blackmouth Oil, 1 × Leaded Vial, 1 × Stranglekelp
The recipe is an item, Recipe: Free Action Potion, and players running the AHledger addon have recorded two vendors selling it. Ulthir in the Craftsmen's Terrace of Darnassus carried it at 16 silver 20 copper, and Kor'geld in the Drag in Orgrimmar at 18 silver. One vendor per faction, both in a capital city, so an alchemist of either side can walk to it. The recipe also shows up on the auction house, listed by people who bought it from the vendor and marked it up, which is covered in the price section because it is a small trade of its own.
No scan has recorded where Free Action Potion comes from yet. Players who run the addon with loot tracking on fill this in; the list appears here and on the item page as soon as it exists.
The potion itself has no recorded source other than crafting. No vendor sells the finished potion and nothing in the scans so far has dropped one. If a stack of them is in your bags, an alchemist made it, and if you want more, the auction house or an alchemist friend is the route.
The vendor recipe is the cheapest part of this whole chain. If you are an alchemist on either faction and you have not bought it yet, 16 to 18 silver at the vendor beats every auction house listing recorded so far.
What the Free Action Potion is used for
Nothing crafts with it. No recipe in the Forever client lists a Free Action Potion as a reagent, so every unit that is made gets drunk. That makes it a pure consumable, and pure consumables price on how often they are used rather than on what they can become. The list below confirms there is no downstream use.
No recipe in the Forever client uses Free Action Potion as a reagent.
The use is the tooltip. For thirty seconds nothing can stun you and nothing can slow or root you, provided the effect was not already on you when you drank. In practice that means three kinds of buyer.
- Battleground players. Anyone carrying a flag or holding a chokepoint on a PvP ruleset wants a few of these in a bag. They are drunk before the fight, not during it, so a player who plans ahead goes through them steadily.
- World PvP on the PvP markets. Open-world fights are started by the other side, and the opener is usually a stun. The potion is the answer to being opened on, which is why the PvP markets pay what they pay.
- Alchemists leveling. Between skill 135 and 175 the recipe is orange, so alchemists make them for the skill point and sell the result. This is the supply side, and it is also why the Normal markets stay cheap: a leveling alchemist lists what they made regardless of who is buying.
The new Forever version, the one that binds when picked up, has the same effect by name and no level requirement. The catalog does not yet record where it comes from, and no scan can ever show it on the auction house. Its existence matters to the tradable potion in one way: any player who has a source of the bound version has less reason to buy the Classic one. Until the source is known, treat it as a note rather than a factor.
What a Free Action Potion is worth
The table shows the current median listing price on each market with a scan that includes the potion, with the 7 and 30 day medians beside it. A market in Forever is one ruleset and faction in a region, so the Normal and PvP columns are different auction houses with different players, and for this item that difference is the entire story.

In the beta economy of October 2026 the Normal markets priced the potion like a leveling byproduct and the PvP markets priced it like a weapon. On Alliance Normal the median sat near eight silver, on Horde Normal near twelve silver, and both had risen from 30 day medians of four and nine silver as more players reached level 20. On the PvP side the same potion listed at a median of two gold forty on the Alliance market and one gold on the Horde market, with 30 day medians of 17 and 22 silver. Those PvP medians come from thin shelves, three to ten auctions at a time, so a single ambitious seller can set the median for an afternoon; the Alliance PvP minimum buyout of 96 silver is a better guide to what actually clears than the two gold median is.
Even using the minimum, the PvP markets paid roughly ten times the Normal markets for an identical item. That is the widest ruleset gap this site has seen on any consumable, and it holds for a reason that will not go away: the people who need stun immunity chose the ruleset where stuns come from other players.
The recipe trades too. Bought from the vendor at 16 to 18 silver, Recipe: Free Action Potion listed at medians of 50 to 57 silver on the Normal markets and one to two gold on the PvP markets in the latest scans, on shelves of two to ten. That is a three to ten times markup on an item anyone can walk to a capital city and buy, which says more about how few players know the vendor than about the recipe.
Make it, buy it, or carry it across
If you are an alchemist. Buy the recipe from the vendor, never from the auction house. Level through the orange window on this potion if Stranglekelp and Blackmouth Oil are cheap on your market, because the potions sell where most leveling products do not. If you play on a PvP ruleset, do not list them on the Normal side; the same stack is worth several times more where you already are. If you play on a Normal ruleset, the potions are a skill point with a small bonus, and the real money is in the next item.
If you buy to use. On a Normal market, buy in fives whenever the median is below the 30 day median and keep a stack for battleground days. On a PvP market, watch the minimum buyout rather than the median, because the shelf is thin and the median is set by whoever listed last. A watchlist entry with an alert at the 30 day median catches the cheap listings without checking by hand.
If you trade. The gap is between rulesets, not between factions, and rulesets do not share an auction house or a mailbox. There is no way to carry a stack from a Normal market to a PvP market, so the ten times spread is not an arbitrage, it is a reason for PvP ruleset alchemists to make the potion themselves. The recipe markup is the one real flip here: 18 silver at the vendor, 50 silver to two gold on the auction house, on markets where the shelf holds two to ten copies. It is a small trade, and it ends the week enough alchemists learn where Ulthir and Kor'geld stand.
The prices guide explains why the median rather than the lowest listing is the number to trade on, and the crafting desk prices the three reagents against the potion on every market from the latest scan.
What changes on 5 November
Everything above describes the beta economy, which has run on the US markets since September with a few thousand players. Launch on 5 November resets it, and for this potion the reset runs in two stages. In the first week nobody is level 20 and nobody has Alchemy 135, so there is no supply and almost no demand; the recipe vendors will see a trickle of buyers and the auction house will show nothing.
The second stage arrives in the second and third weeks, when the first alchemists reach 135 and the first battlegrounds fill. On the PvP markets demand will arrive before supply, because a level 25 player being opened on wants the potion long before the alchemists who could make it have the skill. Expect the PvP medians to open high and stay there until the orange window brings leveling supply. On the Normal markets expect the reverse: alchemists leveling through 135 to 175 will list potions nobody needs yet, and the price will sit near the reagent cost until the first battleground weekend.
The best move for an alchemist on a PvP ruleset is to buy the vendor recipe on the first day it is reachable and to reach 135 before the crowd, because the first stacks to hit a PvP shelf after launch will clear at any price. The first week guide covers the same curve for the rest of the catalog, and the EU markets will run it from the same hour.
Common questions
- What does the Free Action Potion do in WoW Forever?
- It makes you immune to stuns and movement impairing effects for thirty seconds. It does not remove effects already on you, so it has to be drunk before the stun lands. It has no other stats or uses.
- How do you make a Free Action Potion?
- It is an Alchemy recipe at skill 135. Each potion takes one Leaded Vial, one Stranglekelp and two Blackmouth Oil. The recipe stays orange until skill 175 and turns grey at 215.
- Where is the Free Action Potion recipe?
- Players running the AHledger addon have recorded Recipe: Free Action Potion sold by Ulthir in the Craftsmen's Terrace of Darnassus for about 16 silver and by Kor'geld in the Drag in Orgrimmar for 18 silver. It also appears on the auction house at a large markup.
- How much is a Free Action Potion worth?
- In the October 2026 beta economy the Normal markets listed it at medians of 8 to 12 silver. The PvP markets listed it from 96 silver up to a median over two gold on thin shelves. The table on this page shows the current median on each market.
- Why is the Free Action Potion so expensive on PvP markets?
- Because stun immunity only matters when another player is the one stunning you. PvP ruleset players buy it to open fights and carry flags, Normal ruleset alchemists make it for skill points, and rulesets do not share an auction house, so the gap cannot be traded away.
- Is there a new Free Action Potion in WoW Forever?
- Yes. The Forever client adds a second item with the same name and effect that binds when picked up, stacks to twenty and has no level requirement. It cannot be bought or sold, and no scan has yet recorded where it comes from.
