In short
- Sulfuric Acid is a crafted reagent new to Forever, made only by alchemists from a trainer recipe at skill 10: two Pyrite and an Empty Vial per vial.
- It goes into the Totemic leather set from Leatherworking 40 to 70, the four new glove recipes at Blacksmithing 70, and the EZ-Thro Wrap at Engineering 60; nothing consumable takes it.
- In the beta economy it traded between four and twenty silver a vial on thin shelves, so a single order moves the median; the cost of two Pyrite is the floor.
- Make it for skill from 10 to 50 and sell in fives; past 50 only craft it when the median is well above the Pyrite cost.

What Sulfuric Acid is
Sulfuric Acid is an alchemy product new to World of Warcraft: Forever. The client gives it a one-line description, "Fermented by alchemists," files it under Trade Goods, and marks it uncommon. It has no use on its own: you cannot drink it, throw it or apply it to a weapon. It is an intermediate reagent, made by one profession to be consumed by three others, and that position in the chain is what makes it worth understanding.
Classic Era had nothing like it. Alchemy there made potions, elixirs and a few transmutes, and the only things an alchemist sold to other crafters were the Philosopher's Stone outputs. Forever gives alchemists a second job: supplying the materials that leatherworkers, blacksmiths and engineers need for the new gear lines. Sulfuric Acid is the first of those materials a new alchemist can make, and the cheapest, which is why it shows up on every market from the first week.
Where Sulfuric Acid comes from
It is crafted, and only crafted. No creature drops it and no vendor sells it. The recipe comes from the Alchemy trainer at skill 10, so almost any alchemist can make it from the hour they learn the profession, and it takes:
- Sulfuric Acid · Alchemy 102 × Pyrite, 1 × Empty Vial
Two Pyrite and one Empty Vial make one vial of acid. The recipe stays orange, meaning a guaranteed skill point, until skill 50, then fades to grey at 90. That window is why the acid is so plentiful: an alchemist leveling from 10 to 50 can make forty of them for skill alone, and most of those end up on the auction house whether or not anyone ordered them.
Pyrite is the constraint. It is a by-product of copper and tin mining rather than something anyone farms directly, and the Pyrite guide walks through where it drops and how often. An alchemist who also mines gets the acid nearly free. One who does not is buying Pyrite at auction, two per vial, and the acid price follows the Pyrite price with a lag of a day or two.
The Empty Vial is a vendor item and costs a few copper. When you see acid listed below twice the Pyrite median, someone is leveling and dumping, and that is the time to buy what you need for the week.
What Sulfuric Acid is used for
The acid feeds three professions, and the demand from each has a different shape. The live list of recipes that take it is below; here is who is buying.
- Leatherworking. The Totemic line of leather pieces, new in Forever, takes acid at every step: one for the Totemic Leather Armor at skill 40 and the Belt at 50, two for the Gloves at 60 and the Pants at 65, three for the Boots at 70. A leatherworker making the full set for a customer uses nine or ten vials.
- Blacksmithing. The new glove recipes at skill 70, the Crusader's, Veteran's, Guard's and Protector's Gloves, take two each. These are the pieces that fill out the chain and plate sets whose helms and leggings already rank on search, so a blacksmith working orders for those sets is a steady buyer.
- Engineering. The EZ-Thro Wrap at skill 60 takes one. Engineers make fewer of anything than armour crafters, so this is the smallest draw.

None of those recipes is a consumable. Every vial of acid that leaves the market goes into a piece of gear that lasts, so demand tracks how many players are crafting the new sets, not how often anyone fights. That makes it a slower, steadier reagent than a flask or a potion, and it is one of the better items for reading how busy the crafting economy is on a given market.
What Sulfuric Acid is worth
The table shows the current median on each market with a recent scan, with the 7 and 30 day medians beside it. Each row is a separate auction house; a market in Forever is a ruleset and a faction in a region, and the prices do not cross between them.

Through October 2026 the acid traded between four and twenty silver a vial on the US markets, with the Horde markets at the top of that range and the Alliance Normal market at the bottom. The shelf was thin everywhere: a handful of listings on some markets, a couple of dozen on the busiest. A thin shelf is why the price moves so much. One leatherworker buying ten vials for a Totemic set can clear a market and double the median for a day; one alchemist leveling through the orange window can halve it.
The number to anchor on is the cost to make it. Two Pyrite at the Pyrite median plus a vial is the floor any alchemist will accept for long; a listing well below it is a leveler dumping, and a median well above it is an open invitation to craft. The crafting desk runs that comparison for every market from the latest scan, and the crafting profit guide explains what the margin figure includes.
Craft it, buy it, or skip it
If you are an alchemist. Make acid for skill between 10 and 50 and sell the output in fives, which is the quantity a single Totemic piece or a pair of gloves needs. Past 50, only make it to order or when the median is more than about three times the Pyrite price, because the recipe gives no skill and the margin is all there is.
If you are a leatherworker or a blacksmith. Buy the acid; do not level Alchemy for it. Nine vials for a full Totemic set is a small cost beside the leather, and the acid is on every market. The time to stock up is right after a new wave of alchemists hits the orange window, which in practice means the first two weeks after launch and the first week after each content build.
If you trade. Acid is a better signal than a position. Its price tells you whether crafters on a market are busy, and the gap between acid and Pyrite tells you whether alchemists are over or under supplying. The spread between Horde and Alliance markets has been wide enough to carry across, but the shelf is thin, so a stack moved at once will move the price against you.
Put it on your watchlist with an alert at the 30 day median if you craft with it, and read the prices guide for why the median and not the cheapest listing is the figure that matters.
What changes on 5 November
The numbers above come from the beta economy on the US markets. Launch on 5 November starts every market, US and EU, from zero at the same hour, and the acid is one of the first crafted reagents to appear. Alchemists reach skill 10 on the first evening, and anyone who has read this far will have a stack of Pyrite from the copper nodes on the way there, so acid will be on the auction house within hours of the servers opening.
The buyers lag by a week. Leatherworkers need skill 40 and a customer at level 20 before they make a Totemic piece, and blacksmiths need 70 for the gloves. In the beta the acid price was lowest in the days when alchemists were leveling through the orange window and nobody had reached the recipes that use it; expect the same shape, with the floor in launch week and a sharp rise in the second week as the first sets get made. If you are an alchemist, make your skill-up acid in week one but hold most of it; if you craft with it, buy in week one. The EU markets open at the same instant and will run the same curve; the markets page shows each one as its first scans arrive.
